Frequently Asked Questions About The Memorial Plaza | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Q. I bought a brick last year, why isn't it there yet? A. There are a number of reasons, first the templates used to engrave to bricks take 4 to 6 weeks to get fabricated, then engraving takes another couple of weeks. In addition, the ground level of the plaza was completed on Friday July 4th (many thanks to the contractor for putting in the overtime) barely in time for Monday's First Shot Ceremony. An additional wall is going to be built around the backside of the plaza behind the flagpoles. The bricks were physically received about a month ago, which was insufficient time to get them all engraved and set. FOCP felt it was better to have a completed plaza with blank bricks rather than large empty areas with no bricks that were waiting to be engraved. The 10 or 12 bricks in the front corners were pulled and set so you could have an idea what the completed bricks would look like. Q. Do the memorial bricks have to be engraved with the name of a deceased veteran? A. Absolutely not, while the bricks can be used to memorialize a veteran who is no longer with us, the bricks can be used by anybody or organization that wants to become a permanent part of Camp Perry history. This includes shooting teams and clubs, VFW, American Legion and AmVets posts that want to buy groups of bricks as well as any individuals. Q. OK, if my organization wants to buy a group of individual bricks, can we have them set together in a group? A. Yes, within reason and available space. Please make the grouping request on your order forms. If you want to group the bricks together, try to submit all the order forms for the group together. Q. When will the official ribbon cutting for the Memorial Plaza occur? A. Due to the weather and construction delays as well as timing problems this year, we are planning to have the official ribbon cutting ceremony next summer during the 2009 National Matches. Plaza construction and landscaping should be entirely complete by then. Q. How can I make sure that my brick(s) will be placed by the ribbon cutting ceremony in 2009? A. Now that things are running reasonably smoothly, we will start publishing deadline dates by which you should have your brick orders submitted to insure specific installation dates. |
